VIP Foodservice partnered with VPLS to enhance its network leveraging Fortinet’s secure SD-WAN solution. By partnering with VPLS, VIP Foodservice has vastly improved its business continuity, user experience, and overall security posture.

VIP Foodservice serves a diverse base of over 760 operators, including resorts, restaurants, grocery stores, healthcare, and schools. This includes Maui County islands of Maui, Molokai, and Lanai. VIP Foodservice is committed to helping customers become more cost-efficient and profitable, allowing you more time to focus on the satisfaction of your patrons.

Security Posture

Business continuity and user experience are certainly important business needs to address, but the overall security of the network is critical to consider before settling on a solution. Fortinet’s Secure SD-WAN is a security-first SD-WAN solution that protects all ingress and egress traffic through industry-leading next-gen firewall technology. VPLS, through our many Fortinet NSE-certified engineers, has developed an extensive list of FortiGate and FortiSwitch security best practices that we implemented on VIP Foodservice’s deployed equipment. This ensures that the ever-growing list of threats against corporations today, like ransomware, are caught before important intellectual property is compromised or interruption of critical business functions occurs.

User Experience

Fortinet’s Secure SD-WAN provides intelligent path selection for VIP Foodservice’s two ISPs. While both ISPs are up, the best possible path (lowest latency, jitter, and packet loss) is chosen for the traffic between VIP Foodservice’s headquarters and their store, as well as to various services on the Internet. If one ISP fails, SD-WAN will instantly choose the next best possible path to route traffic.

VIP Foodservice’s users experience a measurable difference in cloud backup times after implementation. Their backup times sped up by 75%, dropping from a total of 12 hours to 4 hours to complete. This is thanks to this intelligent path selection made possible by VPLS’ deployed Fortinet SD-WAN solution.

Business Continuity

Redundant FortiGates and FortiSwitches were deployed at both VIP Foodservice locations. Fortinet FortiGate 500E delivers one of the industry’s highest performance at 5.82Gbps. This turned their SLA from several hours to recover from a physical device failure into instantaneous recovery. If one FortiGate or FortiSwitch fails, the other one will instantly take over. There are no more single points of failure.
