Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 General Release!

Share Button

downloadFor businesses that make use of Veeam software on the premises, these are good times indeed, because the product just keeps getting better, and for service companies such as VPLS Inc., that also means service to Veeam clients keeps getting better and better. Organizations across the country have discovered that modern business requirements have necessitated a serious upgrade from legacy backup systems, which simply cannot guarantee availability in the same way that Veeam backups can.

In fact, more than 82% of U.S. CIO’s have asserted that there is a significant gap between the availability needed by internal customers, and what the I.T. department can actually provide. This being the case, a completely reliable Veeam Cloud Connect service such as from VPLS Inc. represents the best way to take the leap into the modern ‘Always On’ level of service for Veeam offsite backups and Veeam offsite replication.

The newest product release is called Veeam Availability Suite 9.5, and it is so loaded with new features and extra functionality, that it’s hard to believe it’s designated a ‘.5 release’ rather than a full new release on its own.

Veeam Availability Suite 9.5

Many of the enhancements originally introduced in version 9.0 have been extended and refined in 9.5 to provide even greater service levels for organizations, with even faster Veeam cloud backup and replication than was previously possible. There are also features included in 9.5 which smooth the pathway for business growth by providing built-in scalability, without losing the up-time demanded by internal customers. Here are some of the key features included in this new release:

  • Increased scalability – Scalability enhancements include faster Veeam backup to cloud performance, quicker restores of large-size virtual machines, and load reduction on both primary and backup storage.
  • Advanced ReFS integration – This improves capacity efficiencies for large-scale data sets, and ensures the protection of your most critical applications through the rapid cloning of VM backups. Backup Windows are shortened, while backup storage loads and backup storage capacity consumption are both lowered. Background data corruption is constantly monitored to ensure the integrity of your company’s data.
  • Integration with Microsoft 2016 – This new release provides full support for Microsoft 2016 Data Center Technologies, including the latest versions of Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Hyper-V 2016, and Windows Server 2016.
  • Direct Restore to Azure – In the Availability Suite 9.5, backups can be restored directly to the cloud using Microsoft Azure as a cloud data center for the direct restore, thus making optimum use of the flexibility and scalability provided by Azure’s cloud resources.
  • Storage snapshot – Recoveries are made even faster by the new VM Explorer for Nimble Storage. Functionality for chargeback and billing helps calculate the real costs of storage resources, and VMware vCloud Director support provides you with self-service backup and restore functionality.
    Time to upgrade

Enterprises seeking to upgrade their service level to customers and to maintain maximum availability of the computing network, have all of that within their grasp with a Cloud Connect Veeam backup system in place. To help get you where you want to go, all that’s necessary is partnering with one of the best Veeam Cloud Backup Providers, so you can be assured of the reliability and functionality you should be receiving from such a system. Before you contact anyone else, call the experts at VPLS Inc. to help get you started on the road to ‘Always On’.

VPLS, premier cloud and managed service provider, to utilize Sunesys dark fiber to achieve 100Gbps of network connectivity between two data center locations in Southern California

The cloud and managed hosting services and Internet connectivity that VPLS provides to its customers, require high-bandwidth network solutions like the dark fiber offering we currently have in place.

Warrington, PA (PRWEB) March 31, 2014

Sunesys, LLC, a leading carrier of dark fiber, Ethernet and private wavelength networks, is proud to announce that VPLS, a premier cloud and managed service provider, is using Sunesys dark fiber to achieve 100Gbps of connectivity between two data center locations in Southern California.

In 2013, Sunesys first provided a dark fiber connection to VPLS and has since added two additional strands, which connect VPLS’s LAX9 data center in downtown Los Angeles to their LAX10 data center in El Segundo. “The benefit of going with a dark fiber network is that we’re able to use our own equipment – giving us complete control and the flexibility to increase bandwidth without additional costs. Sunesys was able to provide a cost-effective fiber optic solution to bridge the 40KM distance,” explains Ted Mektrakarn, Chief Executive Officer at VPLS.

Sunesys looks forward to a continued relationship with VPLS. “The cloud and managed hosting services and Internet connectivity that VPLS provides to its customers, require high-bandwidth network solutions like the dark fiber offering we currently have in place,” states Sunesys Senior Vice President Alan Katz. “ In this dynamic marketplace, we continue to see bandwidth hungry carriers surpass the 1G and 10G offerings, shooting straight for 40G and beyond. We are excited to see companies like VPLS pushing this boundary over our network.”

Sunesys, headquartered in Pennsylvania, currently operates over 9,000 fiber route miles in ten states across the country. Sunesys’ entire footprint can be viewed online at or by downloading the Sunesys App, available for iPhone and Android devices.

Review of 2013 by Numbers

Share Button

2013 was a great year at VPLS with over 20% growth in all our service areas. We were able to keep operations lean with only 40 staff members in the USA and 25 in Thailand. Here are some important Support statistics:

2012 2013
Total Support Tickets 139,119 119,590
Average Resolution Time 10m13s 18m44s
Average Resolution Time for Reboots 7m3s 2m58s
Average Resolution Time for Reformats 24m19s 5m56s

So why are we happy our ticket counts have gone down?

  • Automation Success! We’ve added numerous enhancements to to allow full control and self service for our customers so the need to open a support request was reduced.
  • Better hardware! With newer hardware we’re able to reduce tickets related to hardware failures.
  • Better monitoring! While other companies charge between $2 – $10 for pinging your server we give it away for free! You can monitor your server and services like http / https, IMAP, SMTP etc.

How do we explain why the Average Resolution Time increased?

  •  The degree of difficulties of the problems being reported has increased which has skewed the numbers.
  • The Average Resolution Time also is dependent on the customer responses back for things like login information etc. If customers do not provide us the details in a timely manner this effects the resolution time.
  • Also note that we have listed RESOLUTION time and not response time. This is the time is takes to completely FIX the problem and not the time it takes us to respond to a ticket.

Overall we are very proud of our Support statistics and something that should be of consideration when you choose a hosting provider. Many hosting providers have resulted to making you either:

  1. Pay for support
  2. Pay an upgrade fee for SLA’s on ticket response times
  3. Offer free support but with 24 hr response times

2013 VPLS Holiday Party

Share Button

Our annual 2013 VPLS Holiday party was held on December 14 at Dave & Buster’s in Orange. This is the 3rd time we’ve had an event here and every time we come here the party gets bigger and bigger from the 20 people on the patio our first year to over 80 in the sports lounge. Our employees from Sacramento and San Diego came over to celebrate with us with a holiday turkey buffet, drinks and games galore! We also raised nearly $1,000 in gifts for Toys for Tots from the generous donations of our employees and their guests.
